This year’s them is The Land of Oz. The festivities start at 10:30 with the members only (and their guests) reception; blessing of the fleet starts at Noon (the public is welcome); boat parade at 1:30 followed by the Pirate BBQ and music in the lounge.
Time: Boats away at 1300 (1:00 p.m. immediately following the Opening Day Ceremony). All boats will rendezvous near the Bellingham Cruise terminal at 1330 (1:30 p.m.) or as soon as possible after that time for the parade start.
Course: See attached chart. We will make two passes in front of Boulevard Park and the judges’ boat (Starweather). You must pass the judges’ boat in single file following the boat in front of you.
Order of March: The lead boat will be (Rear Commodore Jonathan Knowles). All others will follow in single file, with Garufa (Fleet Captain, Neil Bennett) taking up last position.
Communications: Channel 69 VHF will be used and monitored during the event.
Judging Criteria: BYC members will be judged for the Best Decorated Boat interpreting the theme: “Land of Oz”. The decision of the judges is final.
Awards: An award for the Best Overall Decorated Boat will be presented to the winner of all of the BYC members entered. All BYC and non-BYC participants will receive a participation plaque.
Youth Sailing Bake Sale Information
The BYC Youth Sailing Fleet is hosting an opening day bake sale! May 3, from 10:30-1:30pm, outside of the BYC.
Please consider supporting the youth fleet in one of two ways:
1. By dropping off a baked good donation at the BYC Friday night or Saturday morning by 10:30am. (Please label the baked goods for the bake sale and what it is)
2. By stopping by the table on the way to your boat for the opening day parade, and picking up some goodies for your guests!
