For consideration by Whatcom County/Bellingham Residents and Boaters:

The Port of Bellingham is asking marine trades folks and boaters generally for help. The city is in the final stages of determining how the waterfront will be re-developed. This is an important time when decisions will be made that will affect the city for years to come. Your participation in the process is important, as the elected officials are here to serve their constituency – the citizens of Bellingham and Whatcom County. If the waterfront development is important to you, now is the time to make your voice heard by attending a public hearing or sending written comments.

The Port of Bellingham and City of Bellingham are in the final review process of the master plan for the former Georgia Pacific Mill property – what is now called the Waterfront District. This new plan for 237 acres of the Bellingham waterfront includes 33 acres of new parks and dedicates over 65 percent of the property for marine trades business. It also includes an area for an urban extension of Downtown (with retail, housing, office and commercial uses) and a new marina in the former treatment lagoon.

Information on the two public hearings is listed below. If you can’t attend either meeting, you can submit written comments. Your voice is important.

Michele Bodtke, Vice Commodore
