Seattle Seahawks are The XVIII Super Bowl Champions!

What an incredible and memorable day yesterday was for each and every one of us Seahawks fans! We witnessed watching the Seahawks win their 1st Super Bowl Championship in franchise history! Bellingham Yacht Club was an awesome place to have a Super Bowl party and to cheer on our Hawks to victory! Many thanks to our wonderful hosts of this year’s party Neil Bennett, Jim & Angie Santosuosso and Tim Mumford! Many BYC members commented that this was by far the best Super Bowl party the club has ever experienced! The Seahawks victory was the sweetest icing on the cake!

The day began with our traditional Chili Cook Off with 24 entrees of homemade recipes of every unique variation. The winner of the coveted Silver Spoon Trophy was Mr. Moo’s Green Chili, crafted by Neil Bennett. Mr. Moo’s Green Chili was the crowd’s choice for the 2014 Super Bowl cook off winning over 10 worthy competitors. Slow cooked on a mesquite wood grill, Mr. Moo, who was grass fed in Everson, laid down an awesome base for herbaceous Hatch Chili peppers, tomatillo, onions and a lot of Adobo spice to shine and waft into the noses and taste buds of the hungry pre-Super Bowl crowd. When asked for the recipe, Fleet Captain Bennett was heard to reply, ‘I just made it up’.

The praise should got to Mr. Moo.

Thanks to Jim Santosuosso and his grilling mates, Andy Brown and Clint Wilkes for serving up that delicious Tri-Tip Steak! The baked potato bar and Caesar salad completed the Super Bowl Party dinner and left not a single guest hungry!

Many thanks to everyone who pitched in a helping hand to make the party so much fun and such a great success! A special thank you to Missy Steffen for helping with setting up for the party and to Margaret Kassner for making sure all of our supplies were well stocked.

Thanks to Steve Hayward and the awesome bartenders who did a fantastic job manning the bar and serving us some great drink specials! Thank you Commodore Michele, dish washing queen, for all your help with cleanup!!
For each and every member who helped with cleanup, THANK YOU!! The club was left neat and tidy thanks to all of you!

Saturday before the game, Mike Allsop and Mark Santosuosso installed a fabulous new 65 inch flat screen TV in the lower lounge of the club! Thanks guys, it was awesome to watch the game on that huge TV!

Also, thanks to Mark Santosuosso for changing out the lighting to Seahawks green for The Big Game!

Thanks for all the generous contributors who purchased dinner tickets too! Without your contributions and support, a Super Bowl party of this caliber would not be possible! The funds from the extra dinner tickets sold were donated to our BYC Junior Sailing.

The lucky Super Bowl prize winners were as follows:

  • 1st Quarter-Neil Bennett
  • Half-time-Trudy Kelsoe
  • 3rd Quarter-Chuy Pena
  • End of Game-Virginia Santosuosso

Once again BYC has proven to be an awesome place to host great events and is one of the best benefits of our club’s membership!
