What a day! Thank you to the Schooner Zodiac and her crew. They not only donated the ship for the sail, but the crew volunteered their time helping our success!
We set sail just shy of 11:30 a.m. Ian Relay was down below putting the finishing touches on lunch. Gerri Rae-Kersey had all her festive baskets and wares ready for purchase. Once we left port the crew instructed the guests to help raise the sails. Everyone from kids to adults chipped in. Although the sun was hiding behind the clouds the wind was perfect with all of the great schooner’s sails up, and we were charging along…it was fun!
After everything was tallied up and the expenses deducted, we raised over $3,750.00 for Youth Sailing. Thank you to all who attended, for you really made the difference between success and failure.
Our BYC Youth Sailing Program has become quite popular. With this success, we have to turn kids away because we do not have enough boats. This year we our goal is to raise enough money for another much-needed sailboat as well as equipment. The money raised on this excursion will go a long way toward purchasing another Laser.
We would also like the thank The Markets for partially underwriting the cost of lunch, Missy Steffen and the BYC Ship’s Store for donating items for the baskets, Ian and Patty Relay for donating wine for the wine raffle, and the Bellingham Herald for including the event in their publication.
