Northwest Waterways Watch
Many of us are now into our summer sailing and cruising. While enjoying our NW waters the Coast Guard has suggested you consider reporting strange or suspicious activity to the National Response Hotline at 1-877-249-2824. The Coast Guard has made it clear that they can’t be everywhere, and they will sort out the value of your reports. The CG Commandant was quoted last season as saying: “You don’t want to be the person who remained silent with the final piece of evidence that could have prevented an attack.”
Another reminder: Set your course parallel to or away from US Navy, US Coast Guard, and large ships so you do not appear to be threatening to them. Also, have your VHF radio tuned to 16 (and / or 13) for any possible contact or instructions. Happy cruising!
