One Design Regatta € Sept 20-21

The annual Bellingham Bay One Design Regatta is coming September 20 and 21. Can you picture it? Kids from 8 to 80 all out on the Bay for one regatta. It just keeps getting bigger, better, and more fun every year!

Last year there were 120 boats and 165 participants on three separate courses. This year we have a projection of up to 200 boats and heaven only knows how many bodies! Definitely a 3-course regatta.

Due to the popularity (and difficulty of putting on) this event, whether you will be racing or would like to volunteer to help, we would greatly appreciate advance notice, by August 31. After all, we have salmon and chicken to catch for the barbecue at Zuanich Park. We have trophies to buy for each fleet. The Port of Bellingham needs to know how much moorage to reserve for keel boats. And finally... the volunteers need to know how much sleep to get the night before.

The Bellingham Yacht Club and the Port of Bellingham... What a Team! The port has already secured crane launching facilities, moorage for keel boats, and dinghy launching facilities.

We have firm commitments from the following fleets: Star, 49ers, Tasars, Laser, Byte, Optimist, and Etchells. Come on, Bellingham Bay is BIG! Let's fill it up. Give us a call. BYC (360/733-7390); Bob Williamson, regatta chair (360-676-4609); Marlene Bolster, committee chair (360-671-5772).

Membership Potluck € August 22 € 5 pm

Roberta McCord

The June 27 Friday at Five meeting was held in the Commodore's Room, rather than the Ward Room (thanks go to Bob Walston for his "special" attention to our members). The following members were present at the meeting... Steve and Meredith Ross, Chuck and Roberta McCord, Steve Moore, Bob and Judy Kehoe, Erlene and Wendell Poole, Marge and Ted Pisarczuk, Ken and Margie Klochn, Paul Beich, and Gene Ryan. This meeting was promoted as a special invitation to social members, which means they don't own a boat. All BYC members are truly social members! The idea was to find out their interests, special events, and things they would like to do. All expressed their enjoyment and camaraderie of the meeting.

Many comments and ideas were heard and the positive result is a Membership Potluck to be held on Friday, August 22, at 5 pm. Roast turkey will be provided, as well as table service. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish, salad, or dessert. If you know for sure you are coming, call and give the number in your party. Remember, this is a Members only function, so please no guests! This is a great way to get acquainted with other members and meet new members that you don't know!!

P.S. Welcome to new members, Ken and Mary Boyle, who came to the July 11 Fridays at Five gathering.
